Prediction of BYOD Boom by 2018

According to a report from the Gartner research organization, by 2018, 70% of all skilled workers will do their business with personal smart devices. What does this mean to you? This for next year could be one of the majorities of workers working on their own smartphone or tablet. This concept is commonly known as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).

If this BYOD trend develops, as predicted by Garner, it will mean significant changes in the workplace that may be difficult to implement in the beginning without causing unnecessary friction.

Who does this device belong to?

It's easy to understand how this can be accommodated and implemented by many different employers: BYOD works very well with lower infrastructure investments. By using BYOD, organizations can trust and even demand that all employees adopt their own material considerations. YOD's application to the remote hosting of UC networks may mean that many companies no longer need to buy their own devices.

To the same extent, there is another important point that must be considered before proceeding with this mindset. It is the fact that many different organizations continue to provide tablets and smartphones to their employees. This raises the question of whether this new workforce is managed by teams or personal devices belonging to the organization.

It is possible for organizations and businesses to deploy these devices, but they have more control over who can access these networks. This can help reduce the frequency and number of security breaches.

Security Concerns: Will Business Continue to Invest in Hardware?

When organizations integrate BYOD practices into their network security usage techniques, they gain greater control over access to their networks. This raises another question, whether employees of a company want to send their personal devices to company regulations, or if they even want to use the company's infrastructure.

But as long as hackers target personal devices and corporate networks, this is an ongoing problem that drives companies to look for better hardware options, such as BYOD.

What kind of work is done?

Proponents of a massive BYOD thrust seem to engage in whether employees can handle all their work on these devices. Unfortunately, while these devices are capable of handling all kinds of important organizational tasks, they are still unable to handle the usual business work such as data entry and design. If YOD can really take its place in the workplace, as predicted by Gartner, it will largely depend on how these devices are designed and manufactured in the near future.

If BYOD can reach the capacity proposed by Garner, it will depend on the ability of these devices to grow, or the development of peripheral functions or the creation of hybrid devices capable of supporting larger workloads.
